Laptop, tablet PC, and netbook screens
use a "backlight" to illuminate the liquid crystal display within the
screen. There are two kinds of backlight technologies, and they aren’t interchangeable:
CCFL (cold-cathode fluorescent lamp) -
an older technology, still very common
LED (light-emitting diode) - a newer
technology, gaining in popularity especially in laptop.
